The Royal Butler, or Cup Bearer, had fallen foul of Pharaoh, the King of Egypt and found himself in jail. His fellow inmates in prison included the Royal Baker and Joseph.

The Royal Butler had a strange dream about squeezing a bunch of grapes into a drinking cup and serving it to Pharaoh. He was troubled by his dream and asked Joseph to explain the meaning of it.

Joseph explained that in three days time, the Butler would be released from prison and given his old job back. Joseph asked the Butler to remember how Joseph had helped him, and to ask Pharaoh to release him because he had been imprisoned under false allegations.

Pharaoh restored the Royal Butler to his post but, sadly, the Butler forgot about his promise to Joseph. For two years Joseph remained in prison until, one day, when Pharaoh was troubled by a strange dream. The Butler remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh about his ability to explain dreams. Pharaoh ordered Joseph to be released from jail and summoned to his court.
