When Rahab discovered that the king's soldiers were looking for the spies, she hid them on her roof under a pile of flax stalks. This was an important crop as the flax fibres were used to make linen cloth and the roots contained oil for animal feed.
This part of Rahab's story is found in Joshua, chapter 2, verses 2 to 7.
Crops like flax, whet and barley are also found in the stories of Joseph's dream about his family, Pharaoh's dream about a great famine, Samson and the foxes and Ruth working on Boaz's field.

Rahab knew that God had helped the Israelites cross the Red Sea and conquer their enemies. She asked to be remembered for the kindness she had shown to the spies. They told Rahab to hand a red cord in her window so the attacking forces would recognise her house. Rahab then lowered the two men down from her window with a rope. The spies escaped safely and returned to Joshua to report all that had happened.
This part of Rahab's story is found in Joshua, chapter 2, verses 8 to 24.
Ropes are also found in the stories of Isaac getting tied up by Abraham, Samson tricking Delilah and both Haman's and the Royal baker's executions.
Rope appears in our Scramble game.
