Noah

  • Noah was a good man.  He had three sons – Shem, Ham and Japheth. The people who lived around Noah were cruel and violent so God decided to punish them by destroying the world with a great flood; but Noah and his family would be spared.
  • This part of Noah’s story can be found in the book of Genesis, chapter 6, verses 9 to 13

Ark

  • God instructed Noah to build a large boat called an ark. He gave Noah all the dimensions and told him to make a roof for it and put a door in the side.
  • This part of Noah’s story is found in the book of Genesis, chapter 67, verses 14 to 16
  • Boats can also be found in the stories of Jonah and the fish, Jesus and the storm, Peter walking on water and Paul’s shipwreck

Sheep

  • God told Noah to gather two of every kind of animal and bird, along with enough food for them all, into the ark before the flood waters destroyed the world (see Daniel for image of lions).
  • This part of Noah’s story is found in the book of Genesis, chapter 6, verses 17 to 24.
  • Sheep can also be found in the stories of Abraham’s test of faith, the birth of Jesus and the parable of the Good Shepherd.

Rainbow

  • While Noah, his family and all the animals were in the ark, it rained for 40 days and nights.  The waters rose and the earth was destroyed.  After many weeks, when the waters started to go down, Noah sent out a raven and then a dove to check if there was dry land.  God set a rainbow in the clouds as a promise that He would never destroy the world again by a flood.
  • This part of Noah’s story is found in the book of Genesis, chapter 8, verse 1 to chapter 9, verse 17
  • A rainbow can also be found in the story of Ezekiel and in John’s revelation
