Nicodemus was a Pharisee, and a member of the Sanhedrin - the Jewish ruling Council. He came to see Jesus one night because he wanted to learn more about God's plan for the world.

Jesus explained to Nicodemus how our lives need to be transformed, and how we need to be born anew in order to see the kingdom of God. To help Nicodemus understand this important message, Jesus made reference to the Old Testament leader Moses.

Joseph of Arimathea, another member of the ruling Council, was a secret follower of Jesus and a friend of Nicodemus. Joseph got permission from Governor Pontius Pilate to remove Jesus' body from the cross.
