Moses crosses the Red Sea

  • When the Israelites reached the Red Sea, Moses (see Moses for image of Moses) stretched out his hand and a strong wind drove the waters back. The Israelites crossed safely with a wall of water on either side. The Egyptian horses and chariots pursued them until Moses stretched out his hand again and the waters returned. The entire Egyptian army was destroyed.
  • This part of Moses' story is found in Exodus, chapter 14, verses 5 to 29.
  • Rivers and seas are also found in the stories of Joshua entering the Promised Land, Elijah's hiding place from King Ahab, Jonah's attempted escape to Tarshish and Jesus' baptism by his cousin John.
  • Rivers and seas do not appear in any Lootro game yet but watch this space for news.

Pillar of fire

  • To help find their way through the desert, the Israelites were guided by a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night. When the people stopped the pillars stopped and they started the people moved off again.
  • This part of Moses' story is found in Exodus, chapter 13, verses 20 to 22.
  • Fire is also found in the stories of Moses' encounter with the burning bush, Daniel's friends in the fiery furnace and Elijah's burnt offering. Clouds are also found in the appearance of the first rainbow and Elijah's servant at the end of the drought.
  • Fire and clouds both appear in our Scramble and 2by 2 games.

Jar of manna

  • In the desert, the Israelites complained about being hungry. God send a type of bread, called manna, each morning for the people to gather. They were instructed to fill twice as many jars on the sixth day so they could rest on the seventh, their holy day or Sabbath. Each evening, God sent flocks of small birds, called quail, for them to catch and eat. He also provided water for them to drink so they did not die of thirst.
  • This part of Moses' story is found in exodus, chapter 16, verses 1 to 36 and chapter 17, verses 1 to 7.
  • Storage jars are also found in the stories of the attack by Gideon's secret army, Elijah soaking the altar, the widow's endless supply of flour and oil, and Jesus' first miracle at the wedding feast at Cana.
  • Jars appear in our Numbers game.

10 Commandments

  • God gave Moses a special set of rules on Mount Sinai called the 10 Commandments. These were to help the people live better , more honest lives. On his return, Moses smashed the stone tablets in anger when he saw how badly the people were behaving. He had to go back up the mountain and get another set.
  • This part of Moses' story is found in Exodus, chapter 32, verses 15 to 19.
  • The 10 Commandments are also found in the stories of Joshua and the Ark of God, and the building of Solomon's Temple.
  • The 10 Commandments appear in our Scramble and Numbers games.
