Jacob

  • Jacob was Isaac's and Rebecca's son, and Esau's twin brother. Esau was born first but came out with Jacob holding his ankle. Esau was hairy and rugged. • This part of Jacob's story is found in Genesis, chapter 25, verses 19 to 28.
  • Jacob appears in our Babble.on and Ballyhoo! games.

Bowl

  • Jacob was jealous of his older twin's position as he knew that Esau would get their father's blessing or birthright. This would recognise Esau as firstborn with authority over the family. One day, when Esau returned from a hunting trip, he was so hungry that Jacob convinced him to swap his birthright for a bowl of stew. Jacob and his mum later tricked Isaac into giving Jacob the blessing. When Esau discovered the deception, Rebecca urged Jacob to flee.
  • This part of Jacob's story is found in Genesis, chapter 25, verses 29 to 34 and chapter 27, verses 1 to 40.
  • Bowls are also found in the stories of Blind Bartimaeus begging at the city gates.
  • Bowls appear in our Numbers game.

Angels

  • Jacob ran away to his uncle Laban's to escape from Esau's fury. One night on the journey, he had a strange dream about angels going up and down a ladder (or stairway) that reached from earth up to heaven. At the top stood God who spoke to him. Jacob woke up and placed the stone he had used for a pillow as a special marker stone.
  • This part of Jacob's story is found in Genesis, chapter 27, verse 41 to chapter 28, verse 22.
  • Angels are also found in the stories of Jesus' birth, Peter's escape from prison and Daniel's friends in the fiery furnace.

Joseph was his first son born to Rachel and his favourite. Jacob gave Joseph a special gift of a coloured coat which upset his other children.
  • This part of Jacob's story is found in Genesis, chapter 37, verses 1 to 4.
  • Coats are also found in the stories of Hannah's annual visit to Samuel, Joseph's trouble with Potiphar's wife and john the Baptist's rough clothes.
