When the boy became ill and died, Elijah brought him back to life.

Cattle

  • Elijah challenged King Ahab and his prophets to a duel in order to show the people which was the true God. He ordered two bulls to be cut up and placed on top of piles of wood, known as an altar. The false prophets tried unsuccessfully to summon fire and Elijah teased them. Elijah ordered water to be poured over his altar. God sent down fire which burned up the soaking wet sacrifice (see Peter for image of fire). All the people cheered.
  • This part of Elijah's story is found in 1 Kings, chapter 18, verses 20 to 39.
  • Cattle are also found in the stories of the golden statue made by the Israelites in the desert, Pharaoh's dream of a great famine and Elisha ploughing his dad's field.
