David was Jesse’s youngest son and had seven older brothers. David would grow up to become a talented musician and songwriter, a mighty warrior and a powerful king.

David was a shepherd boy who looked after his dad’s sheep. There were many wild animals in the hills to protect the flock from. One day he had to fight off a lion; and on another occasion a bear.

Goliath was an enormous Philistine champion who challenged the Israelite soldiers to a fight. The Philistines were enemies of the Israelites. When little David appeared, Goliath made fun of him. David fired a stone from his sling which struck Goliath on the forehead and killed him. David then took Goliath’s sword and chopped his head off.
