Andrew

  • Andrew was a disciple of Jesus from Bethsaida on Lake Galilee. Andrew had been a follower of John the Baptist. When John told his followers about Jesus, the first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and bring him to see Jesus.
  • This part of Andrew's story is found in John, chapter 1, verses 35 to 42.

Fishing net

  • Andrew and his brother Simon Peter were fisherman. One day, while they were casting their net into the lake, Jesus invited them to join him and he would teach them to fish for people. Straight away, they left their net and followed Jesus.
  • This part of Andrew's story is found in Mark, chapter 1, verses 16 to 18.
  • Nets are also found in the stories of Peter's haul of fish, Solomon's fishing trip, Isaiah's hunt for antelope and Hosea's bird catching.

Disciples

  • The disciples were a group of people picked by Jesus to work with him during his ministry. They were an odd mix of men from different places and with various jobs and skills. After Jesus ascended into heaven, they went out into the world to share his message.
  • This part of Andrew's story is found in Mark, chapter 3, verses 13 to 19.
  • The disciples are also found in the stories of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and their shared meal together in the upper room, known as the last supper.

Boy with lunch

  • One day, after Jesus had finished teaching the crowd, one of the disciples asked how they would feed them all. There were 5,000 men, as well as women and children. Andrew brought forward a young boy with a packed lunch of five loaves and two small fish. Jesus told the crowd to sit down. Then he gave thanks to God for the food and divided it up. Miraculously, everyone had enough to eat and there was food left over.
  • This part of Andrew's story is found in John, chapter 6, verses 1 to 14.
