Adam & Eve

  • God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. He made day and night, the heavens and the earth, the land and the sea, the mountains and the rivers, the animals, birds and fish. God made Adam and put him in charge of all the animals and plants. Then he made Eve to work alongside Adam. Everything in the garden was perfect.
  • This part of Adam's and Eve's story is found in Genesis, chapter 1, verse 1 to chapter 2, verse 25.

Tree

  • God told Adam and Eve that they could eat of the fruit from all the trees except the tree of knowledge of good and evil that grew in the centre of the garden.
  • This part of Adam's and Eve's story is found in Genesis, chapter 2, verses 15 to 17.
  • Trees are also found in the stories of Absalom's failed coup, the location of Deborah's court and Zacchaeus' scramble to see Jesus.

Serpent

  • The serpent approached Eve and teased her about what God had said. The serpent told her that God was lying to them about the fruit, and that she should try it. God punished the serpent by making it slide on its belly.
  • This part of Adam's and Eve's story is found in Genesis, chapter 3, verses 1 to 5.
  • Snakes are also found in the stories of Moses' special stick, Moses' bronze statue and Paul's shipwreck.

Fruit

  • Eve ate the fruit and offered it to Adam who was with her. He ate the fruit as well. They were embarrassed by their nakedness and tried to hide from God. Then they made clothes from leaves sown together. God was angry because they had disobeyed him and they were thrown out of the garden. An angel with a flaming sword prevented them from returning to the garden.
  • This part of Adam's and Eve's story is found in Genesis, chapter 3, verses 6 to 24.
  • Fruit is also found in the stories of Moses' spies in the Promised Land, Daniel's special diet and Jesus' reference to the true vine.
